AML Buddy vs Thirdfort: questions

Is AML Buddy cheaper than Thirdfort?

It depends on your volume and which checks you need. AML Buddy is £4.50 + VAT per check with no platform fee or contract. Thirdfort charges a platform fee from £83 + VAT a month (estate agents and accountants) or £167 + VAT (law firms and conveyancers), plus credits, and doesn’t publish credit prices. Over a year, that platform fee alone is at least £996 + VAT before any checks (our calculation).

Does Thirdfort have a contract?

Yes. Thirdfort’s pricing page says its contracts run for 12 months and that credits are valid for two years.

Does Thirdfort charge per user?

No. Thirdfort includes unlimited users at no extra cost. AML Buddy has no per-user fee either.

When is a check charged?

Thirdfort says it only charges for checks that are completed. AML Buddy charges a check when your client starts verification, not when you send the link. AML Buddy checks don’t expire while your account is open.

Can AML Buddy do source of funds checks like Thirdfort?

Not today. If you need open-banking source of funds checks or NFC chip checks designed for HM Land Registry’s Safe Harbour standard, Thirdfort covers that.

Can I switch from Thirdfort to AML Buddy?

Yes, once your contract term ends. Keep your existing Thirdfort reports for five years after the business relationship ends (MLR 2017 regulation 40). You can check new clients in AML Buddy straight away, with 5 free checks to start.

Which is better for a small estate or letting agent?

For a handful of checks a month with no need for source of funds, AML Buddy’s pay-per-check model avoids a 12-month platform fee. For checks inside Reapit or Alto and source of funds, Thirdfort fits better.
