Higher rates for additional properties
If you will own more than one home, you pay the higher rates. They are a separate table with their own bands, not a surcharge on the main rates. They don’t apply to properties under £40,000.
| Part of the price | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to £180,000 | 5% |
| £180,001 to £250,000 | 8.5% |

| £400,001 to £750,000 | 12.5% |
| £750,001 to £1.5 million | 15% |
| Over £1.5 million | 17% |
These rates apply from 11 December 2024. If you replace your main home and sell the old one within 3 years, you can usually claim back the difference. Companies buying homes of £40,000 or more pay the higher rates too.
